Art Reference Resources
I love indulging in my passion for collecting art and art instruction books. Constantly scouring bookstores and the web, I've come across a treasure trove of valuable resources that help me navigate the intricate world of learning art. Here's a selection of books and publications that I find incredibly useful:
Another book that I stumbled upon by chance a few years ago and now consider my go-to reference for building up the human figure when quick sketching is "The Figure" by Walt Reed.
Folds! Folds! Folds are the bane of my existence! I don't want to sound dramatic, but folds are like math to me. They have the uncanny ability to shut down my brain. Whenever I stumble upon a how-to instruction book on folds and drapery, I impulsively purchase it, regardless of the author.
Willy Pogany is one of my favorite illustrators. He was an Hungarian-born artist active in the 19th and early 20th century, and was known for his remarkable contributions to the field of illustration. He provided illustrations for classic literature and mythology as well as for fairy tales and children's books.
Take a look at this well-loved copy of the latest issue of Watercolor Artist magazine, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year! If you're a watercolor enthusiast (and they even cover gouache sometimes!), you should definitely consider subscribing to this quarterly publication.
I stumbled upon the incredible book "Anatomy for Sculptors" by Uldis Zarins and Sandis Kindrats through a fortuitous web search. As it turns out, it was a highly successful Kickstarter project, and I consider myself fortunate to have discovered it shortly after the campaign concluded.
